2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Already a Hit with the Texas Automotive Media Association

During the SEMA trade show October 31, the TAMA held its annual AutoJudge Awards, where the organization named our automaker's latest its "SUV of the Year." Given the universal appraisal -- the panel of veteran auto journalists praised everything from the fourth-generation compact SUV's performance and safety to its comfort, functionality, overall quality, and value -- we at Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg can certainly see why.

In fact, there's a lot about the new Hyundai Santa Fe that drivers here in the greater Orlando area already find ahead of the pack. For one, the drive behind its two engine choices -- one, a 185-horsepower, 2.5-liter I4, geared for high-efficiency, and the other a 235-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-four, turbocharged to appeal to the high-octane crowd. Drive Mode Select makes it easy to tailor it.

Secondly, its excellent use of fuel, made possible by a standard eight-speed auto transmission. In FWD, count on up to 22 mpg in cities like Lady Lake, 29 mpg across the highway to Clermont, and 25 mpg combined between the lights of The Villages and central Florida beyond. You can still get great mileage with available HTRAC All-Wheel Drive (AWD), too -- up to 21 mpg, 27 mpg, and 23 mpg respectively.

Next, its accommodations. Seating for five appears in a cavernous cabin measuring up to 110.7 cubic feet. It's optionally heated and ventilated up front, available power-adjustable for both driver and passenger and with lumbar support for the driver, and optionally heated in the rear -- the lap of luxury. Choose between 7- or 8-inch touchscreen infotainment systems, featuring standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, and opt for perks like available navigation, 12-speaker Infinity Premium Audio, and wireless charging for your electronics, and your trip comes together. There's even room for luggage, camping equipment, and more -- up to 71.3 cubic feet for cargo, to be sure, with reclining, 60/40-split fold-flat seats collapsed. You've even got space for extras, owing to both available roof side rails and the capacity to tow 2,000 to 3,500 pounds. That's enough for anything from a pop-up tent trailer to a dirt bike or two, or even an ATV.

Finally, its demonstration of the wider Hyundai commitment to your drive-time security. Standard driver-assist features abound, ranging from systems that monitor blind spots, warn you of rear cross-traffic, and help you avoid a forward collision to those that let you know of nearby pedestrians, help you stick to your lane, and more. There are even a few unique standards, like a driver attention warning feature to help you stay focused and safe exit assist for leaving the SUV with peace of mind. Available options go even further, spanning the gamut from rear occupant alert and parking distance warning to a surround view monitor.
